Firstly may I start by saying a big
thank you to everyone who has made my first
quarter term as Chair, such a pleasure. For
that I thank you, but as with all such things a
honeymoon period does not last forever, and it is
important that in my role as Chair I continue to
press and bring to the fore issues that are of
real concern to you as members. This is your
network and it should always reflect your issues,
so I look forward to hearing your views of the
issues that concern you or the good news stories
you want to share.
As for what’s been hitting the
headlines over the past months, the ‘credit
crunch’ seems to be the primary focus of every
newspaper/news item. My concern isn’t
that this might be the case, but that we may be so
willing to accept it as our fate. Yes things
may be difficult, things may be tight, but being
in business is never the easy option and if we
were to have taken heed of every news report we
would have packed away our passports and carnets,
and closed down UK PLC months ago. I think
it is important that we resist the temptation to
fall in line with this theory and to continue to
do what we do best, promoting what we do within
our businesses, providing added value and quality
and letting the world know that we are well and
truly open for
business.
Certainly
the feeling of impending doom perpetuated by the
media was not to be found at our recent Brazil
& Mexico event held at Birmingham
Chamber. This was a fabulous event, which
was vibrant, informative and entertaining; where
all attendees had an opportunity to get their own
individual questions answered and still had time
for all the usual networking. I would like
to thank everyone for their participation,
delegates, speakers, and particularly Glenis
Poletti and Sunny Claire who organised the
event.
Please
continue to engage as much as you possibly can by
submitting Case Studies, good news stories,
raising points you would like to see covered, or
attending an event and if you are unsure about the
value of attending an event, get to speak to one
of the members who recently attended the Brazil
Mexico event. I promise you won’t be
disappointed by what you hear.
Best wishes for the
summer.

Ever wondered
about new technologies to network with other
people and to support learning?
There is a free
event on 16th July at TIC, Millennium Point in
Birmingham, high on interaction and using low
