Dear Members
I imagine that for most of you the summer holidays
are now a distant memory and I hope that you have returned to work with
batteries well re-charged. The late summer has certainly not been
quiet on the international front and there are obvious concerns in the
financial markets as we see currencies varying substantially at the
moment. We need to keep a weather eye on this and to make our
concerns known as to how interest rates affect Sterling and
the damage this can do to our competitiveness overseas. MWTF is
always asked to comment on this issue and you can rest assured that I will
continue to hammer the point home at every opportunity. |

In earlier newsletters I have spoken
about the introduction of an International Trade Forum and we expect to
see this happen in the final quarter of this year. This will act as
a 'national export club' for the U.K. and will be launched
through the offices of the British Chambers of Commerce. The plan is
to embrace all interested parties throughout the regions so that we can
have a loud national voice to take into consideration our opinions, views
and concerns as international traders. I hope that you see
the press coverage that MWTF is getting these days - you will certainly
see us mentioned more often in the press than we were two or three years
ago. For example recent coverage featured our visit to Hamburg where
we enjoyed the hospitality of Hamburg Chamber of Commerce. Details
and feedback from this visit are featured in the newsletter. We hope
to spread our influence and linkage by inviting representatives and
members from Hamburg Chamber back to meet us here in the West Midlands
early next year. I hope you enjoy reading the varied articles
in this quarter's newsletter. If you have any comments or
suggestions on topics that you would like to see covered in the future
then please let us know.
Kind regards
Peter Mathews
