MWTF Business Delegation Visits Hamburg

Members of the Midlands World Trade Forum (MWTF) have returned from a two-day trip to Hamburg where they met representatives from the city’s Chamber of Commerce.

Peter Mathews, president of the MWTF, said: “Even though much of modern international trade is done via e-mail, websites and over the phone, there is still nothing better than getting together face-to-face with business contacts from overseas.

“Hamburg is one of the largest ports in Europe and is a gateway for getting products to and from the Far East – nearly a third of containers that pass through the port either come from, or are destined for, China – so it was important for us to see how things are done there and what opportunities are available for West Midlands companies.”

Also on the trip were David Houghton, Regional Sales Director at MWTF sponsors Royal Bank of Scotland, and Yorkshire World Trade Forum chairman Bernd Klein.

Paul Willoughby, regional sales manager for airline Flybe who helped organise the trip, added: “Hamburg is becoming increasingly important for business travellers, which is why we have tried to make the flights as convenient and as competitively priced as possible.”
