Being in
business is never the easy option and if the media
were to be believed our only option would be to
all turn our backs and effectively shut down UK
PLC.
There has been too much talk of credit
crunch and recession and we would do well to
remember that if you tell an individual often
enough they are doing badly they will begin to
believe it, it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.
Countries are no different. Every day
brings its own challenges. Now is not
the time to withdraw, clamp down on marketing, or
stop looking for new business. Now is the
time to market our businesses ever more widely,
look for new markets, diversify and always
innovate, and most importantly claim column inches
back in the press which will buck the doom and
gloom trend they are determined to force upon
us.
We’re
not so naïve to think that some businesses are not
having a difficult time, but let’s be realistic
about this, at some point, somewhere a business
will be having a difficult time, it may even fold,
but it is as likely to be for a plethora of other
reasons rather than due to a dramatic global
meltdown.
So
resisting the temptation to fall in line with
recession fever we should continue to do what we
do best - promoting what we do within our
businesses, providing added value and quality and
letting the world know that we are well and truly
open for business. Challenges
there may be, but that’s the nature of
business.
The Midlands World Trade Forum is
there to offer you mentoring and support to assist
your international trade activities so don’t
hesitate to contact us if you think we can be of
assistance.
